About
Welcome to Homemade by Heart! I’m Grace Sullivan, the recipe developer, photographer, and passionate home cook behind everything you see here. My journey in the kitchen began beside my father, a busy single parent who believed that gathering around the dinner table was non-negotiable, even on the most hectic days.
Those early lessons in my Philadelphia childhood home taught me that cooking isn’t about perfection or fancy ingredients—it’s about creating moments of connection. After studying nutrition and working in healthcare for nearly a decade, I realized my true calling was helping others discover the joy and simplicity of cooking from scratch. In 2018, I started sharing recipes with friends and colleagues who claimed they “couldn’t cook,” and watching their confidence grow became my greatest reward.
My cooking philosophy is straightforward: homemade doesn’t have to be complicated. I create recipes for real life—meals that work for busy weeknights, food that pleases picky eaters, and special dishes that make ordinary days feel celebratory. Every recipe on Homemade by Heart has been tested multiple times in my modest kitchen with standard equipment and ingredients you can find at any grocery store.
What drives my passion is making “from scratch” accessible to everyone, regardless of experience level or time constraints. I’m particularly devoted to recipes that can be prepared ahead, involve minimal dishes, and teach foundational techniques that build confidence in the kitchen.
When I’m not cooking, you’ll find me tending to my small vegetable garden in Minneapolis, volunteering at our local food bank, or enjoying movie nights with my husband Mike and our two teenagers (my most honest recipe critics!).
The stories you share with me—about finally mastering a homemade pasta sauce, getting your children involved in the kitchen, or reconnecting with family recipes—are what keep me creating and sharing. These moments of kitchen triumph, big or small, are the heart of what we’re building together.
I believe that in our fast-paced world, the simple act of making something with your own hands can be revolutionary. My hope is that the recipes you find here inspire you to slow down, nourish those you love, and create your own traditions around the table.
Thank you for allowing me into your kitchen. Let’s make something wonderful together!
With gratitude and flour-dusted hands,
Grace
